Ruby and I attended our first UKA show back in October but haven't done another one since, and this was to be Pepper's first! I met up with Mandy and Karen - there's safety in numbers - and when we got there we found lots more friendly faces.
We started with agility - I was running both girls NFC so it was an opportunity for me to try to get over my nervousness and see how focussed the girls were going to be! Ruby was a little monkey doing her usual freestyling and getting distracted by the horse smells in the indoor school! Pepper started out in a similar way but thankfully she settled down and finished well!
Next was Jumping - Ruby was a little better but still had far too much of a 'spaniel nose'! Pepper did well but wasn't clear!
Final two rounds were Steeplechase - the first one was a nice flowing course in the indoor arena! I was a little worried about the final few jumps as there was no option but to rear cross and it's not something that we are very confident with. Both girls did really well and ran clear!
The last round was a huge course in the outdoor arena! Again it was a flowing course but involved a lot of running! Pepper went first and I just decided to go for it - she was stunning! She flew and did everything I asked of her - we event did 2 blind crosses! Ruby on the other hand stopped for another sniff and preferred her own course!
I could not believe it when Pepper was awarded rosettes for 3rd place in BOTH of the Steeplechase rounds! What a clever girl in her first big girls competition!
