The Wellington Arms, Baughurst

It was Ian's birthday on 29th August so I booked to take him to The Wellington Arms in Baughurst.  We had heard about it from the owners of the Purefoy Arms that we discovered recently - they say it is their favourite place to eat so that was a good enough recommendation for us!

It is a small gastro pub that is very dog friendly - it's great to have such lovely places to go that we are able to take Ruby and Pepper.  They also have a couple of rooms and I booked to stay the night so that we could make the most of our time there.

The staff are all brilliant, the food was excellent, the room was luxurious - I haven't got a bad thing to say about it!  The attention to detail in every way is exceptional!  If you want somewhere special to go I would highly recommend The Wellington Arms!

Ruby Update

It's been a week since Ruby's accident and I'm pleased to report that she is healing really well.

She has been pretty good wearing her 'cone of shame', she doesn't really like it but has accepted that she needs to wear it.  She had a slight infection at the start of the week but the anti-biotics and some salt water bathing have cleared that up. There is now just one little bit that is looking sore but we hope she will get the all clear when we see the vet on Tuesday.

Here are a couple of pictures - apologies for the quality as I took them on my phone:

Ruby - Our wounded soldier!

We haven't had the best of weekends!  Yesterday afternoon I noticed that Ruby was excessively fussing her back right leg and when I tried to investigate she was clearly in pain.

When I eventually persuaded her to let me take a look I found an open wound under her fur on the inside of her right thigh.  It was clearly going to need stitches so we had no alternative but to take her to the emergency vet.

The vet took a look and explained that she would need a general anaesthetic as it was the only way she would be able to keep her completely still, so we had to leave her there.

A worrying 4 hours later we got a call to say that we could go and pick her up.  I was so pleased to see her but it was awful seeing her feeling so sorry for herself!

When we got home we settled her on the sofa - she was still very drowsy so she slept for a good couple of hours.  After a couple of hours we gave her some scrambled egg and rice - she was hungry!

She had a reasonably comfortable night, even wearing a buster collar, and today has seemed a little brighter.  She has even been wagging her tail!

We are going back to the vet tomorrow for a check up so fingers crossed that she is on the mend!

Here are a few pictures of her wound:

Beresford Wish UKA Show, Mapledurham

A very mixed day at Beresford Wish show!

Mapledurham is one of my favourite venues and it was great being there today when the weather was so nice!  We also had great company in Sue and Dave with their lovely dog, Wiski - I don't know how I would have coped without them as there were several occasions that I had to juggle both dogs.

Ruby is still not back to her normal self so I ran her NFC.  I would love to know what is going on in her mind, but hope that we can get to the bottom of it and get her back to normal as I miss my crazy, unpredictable girlie!

When it came to Pepper it was my handling that left a lot to be desired!  I made some really silly mistakes that caused us to be E'd, but we did manage a lovely clear round in Steeplechase and came 1st.

The other highlight was that I was brave enough to try a Ketschker turn for the first time in competition, in fact I did 3!  All of them worked really well so I won't be so scared to do it again next time!

Happy 2nd Birthday Little Pepper!

Our beautiful, cheeky little girl is 2 today!

She entertains us every day with her full range of cute poses, and pushes every boundary, but we could not imagine what life would be like without her.

She has had fun playing with her new toys, and as usual, Ruby can't get a look in.  We went for a lovely walk and celebrated with a complimentary glass of Prosecco at the pub!

I also made her a cake!  I used the Lily's Kitchen Birthday Cake recipe which they seem to love, but it was rather large so I didn't decorate the whole thing so that I can freeze some of it.

Here is a link to the recipe:    http://www.lilyskitchen.co.uk/dog/recipes/birthday-cake

I have failed to get many pictures as I forgot to charge the battery (oops!), but here are a few that I dd get:
