Paws in the Park, Ardingly

We had a family day out at Paws in the Park!  Pepper and I were entered into the agility but there were lots of other Have-a-Go events, and stalls to occupy us for the rest of the time.

I spoke to both of the agility judges while walking the courses and they were very understanding, and said that I could run the first contact again, but would then be able to complete the course!  I couldn't have asked for any more!

The fist run was the Combined G1-3 Agility - Pepper leapt the seesaw so we went back and did it again, she stopped beautifully.  We continued round the rest of the course and she had fantastic contacts on the dog walk and the A-frame.  She was speedy and paying attention so I was generally really happy!

Next was Grade 3 Agility - we set off and she stopped perfectly on the dog walk - I held the contact for a couple of seconds and then carried on - she was fantastic and finished the course clear.  We were placed 2nd, 2 seconds behind the winner.  I was absolutely delighted!

The final run was a Combined G3-5 Jumping - unfortunately Pepper knocked a pole but she was flying!   We would have won by 3 seconds if she had been clear!

I couldn't have been happier with her - I think she's really starting to understand that she has to stop on her contacts at a show the same as she does in training!  Fingers crossed we're heading in the right direction!

Here we are with out rosette and trophy:

Tunbridge Wells Agility Show, Ardingly

Very exciting day - our first team event representing Paws at Play!

We headed off to the South of England showground early in the morning and our first course was ready to walk - the Combined G3-7 Olympia qualifier.  The course was OK, considering, but I had to decide how to handle the contacts.  I approached the judge and asked if he would mind me doing the seesaw again if Pepper didn't get a 2o2o position, and volunteered to leave the ring immediately.  He was really nice and said that he would be happy for me to do the seesaw again, but that I could then do the dog walk on my way to the exit!

This is exactly what we did - she ran the seesaw the first time, I took her back to do it again and she did a perfect stop.  We ran round to the dog walk and she did another good stop, and finished by going over the wall to stop the clock.  It felt like a step in the right direction and I was really grateful that the judge had been so accommodating!

We then had Graded 3-4 Jumping - I was really looking forward to running the course, but sadly Pepper had a pole down!  She would have come second if she had been clear!

Finally it was the team event!  We had agreed that we should run the course as we wanted to as individuals and I had said that I would put Pepper back on the contacts if she didn't stop.  I volunteered to go first so that I wouldn't be affected by anyone before me getting a clear round. We set off and Pepper was amazing!  She stopped on all 3 of the contacts and ran the rest of the course clear!  I took the baton from Jo and she set off with Quiz around the course, followed by Emma and Star and Sally and Taya.  Emma and Jo were both eliminated but Sally was clear.  It was a terrifying experience but so much fun and I couldn't have been happier with Pepper.  There is light at the end of the tunnel!
