Paws in the Park & Camping at Long Acres

We had our annual trip to Paws in the Park this weekend and took the opportunity to have a camping weekend at Long Acres in Lingfield.

The event at Ardingly was fab, as usual, with lots of stalls, events and activities, as well as all of the friends that we met up with there.

I finally managed to get an opportunity to let Ruby have a go at the Splash 'n' Dash event, but she didn't take to it quite as well as I expected.  Bearing in mind that she loves water and is a complete ball monster, I thought this would be right up her street, but she was quite hesitant.  Here are a couple pictures of her having a go:

And here is a review of our agility antics:

Both girls were entered into the Combined 3-5 Jumping which was a pretty tricky course.

Ruby went first and had trouble with her weave entry, and then she ran over to see Ian who was watching at the side, but she was driving forward so overall a good effort

Pepper was full of it!  She wasn't going to get distracted by Ruby and Ian on the sidelines, but she picked up 5 faults for a weave issue!

Pepper also had two Agility runs:

Combined 4-7 Agility - I was conscious that she might not hold her contacts after the show last weekend, so had decided that I would use this as a training run which allowed me to see if she would pick up the tricky weave entry - she didn't!!  And then, as expected, she released herself from the A-frame so I put her back to get Eliminated.

Graded 4 & 5 Agility - This was a pretty straight forward course, and Pepper did a lovely clear run, but with a twiddle at wrong end of tunnel which would have cost us a couple of seconds.  They only placed 1st and 2nd so a Clear Round rosette for us - she was 4th!  But good to have a clear round and with lovely contacts too!

Overall a lovely day out, a fab weekend camping, and hopeful of some more clear rounds as the season carries on.

To finish off the weekend we walked to the local pub, The Wiremill - it's right on a lake where there is a waterskiing school who entertained us while we had our drinks:

Tunbridge Wells, Ardingly

We had a great time at the Tunbridge Wells show at Ardingly this weekend.  It's a strange show in many ways as there are quite a few qualifiers so the great and the good of the agility world were out in force.

Pepper had 3 individual runs but we were also there to compete as part of the Positively Paws at Play Medium team in the Crufts qualifier.

Our first run was the Olympia Qualifier - Combined 3-7 - The course had an element of difficulty, but it was fair and I was looking forward to running it with Pepper.  I was all going to plan until I did a really silly thing and caused her to come off the seesaw sideways to get 5 faults! All I had to do was take another pace forward and she would have run down to the bottom!  So stupid!

Here is a video of the offending event:
Our other individual runs were nothing to write home about, but lots of training points noted!

This brings me on to the Team qualifier!  The course was really nice, and we decided that Pepper and I would run first followed by Emma & Star, then Elaine and Vimes, and finally Sally and Taya.  Here is a video of our run:
I'm so proud of our team for achieving this!  We all had such good runs and really fast too!

We came back at the end of the class to see if we had achieved a place to find that the team that there had been a timing fault for the team that were in the winning place with 4 clear rounds, and they were going to have to run again.  The team rules mean that their re-run wasn't just for time, they would be judged for faults too!  We watched with bated breath, and some questionable judging, but eventually they were deemed to ave 4 clear rounds, so we were eventually awarded the second place.  So close, but good possibilities for the future as a team!
