....and she is officially Medium! Hooray!
When competing at KC agility shows the dogs will jump a height specific to their size. A Medium dog has to be between 35cm and 43cm and will jump a height of 45cm and a dog that is larger than 43cm will jump a height of 65cm. I had begun to worry that Ruby was borderline between being Medium and Large! Thankfully she measured Medium - she will need to have a second measurement in a years time but hopefully that will give the same result! Ruby's Kennel Club registration arrived in the post today - she is now officially Royal Rubylicious!
As a crossbreed, Cockapoos would not be registered with the Kennel Club but to compete in Kennel Club affiliated agility shows they have to be registered on the Activity Register. Now that she is registered I need to get her officially measured so that I know which jump height she will be able to compete at! Fingers crossed she will measure Medium!! It's been a really exciting day! I have been training Ruby to weave using the 2 x 2 method that I learnt in February! She has been making good progress and I wanted to get some pictures and videos of how our training has been going, so off we went to the local park with our weave poles. Ruby was doing really well and Ian suggested that we try closing the poles so that they were evenly spaced! The first time I sent her she went a little wrong so we started again and I couldn't believe that she did it - she weaved the 4 poles!! Here is the video of Ruby weaving for the first time: Ruby and I have been to a Paws at Play workshop today covering a method of teaching the weaves called 2 x 2. This method was created by Susan Garrett and is renowned for creating a dog that has confident, fast weave entries and is happy to weave independently. You so often see a dog that relies on their handler helping them through every pole!
We started with the basics and have been told how to develop this through to the dog being able to weave! I really enjoyed it and it made complete sense! I hope to buy my own weave poles soon so that I can start training this more frequently! We also covered contacts - how to get fast, accurate contacts! The whole day was great - thank you Nicky and Michelle for a fun day! |
